Top 5 Most Iconic Screen Cars

Forget the actors and actresses the real stars of these small and big screen hits are the cars!

Herbie
Star of the 1968 film The Love Bug, Herbie has become one of the most recognisable movie cars in the world. The white Volkswagen Beetle, which had a mind of its own and could feel human emotions, was distinguished by two red and blue racing stripes and the number 53, although the original Herbie was far less flashy. Fitted with a punchy Porsche 356 engine, Herbie was a surprisingly capable race car!

The Striped Tomato
The Striped Tomato was star of the 70s hit TV series Starsky and Hutch, the bright red Gran Torino featured a distinctive large white vector stripe. Allegedly Paul Michael Glaser, who played detective David Starksy in the show, did not like the car as he thought it was ugly and unrealistic for undercover detectives, and because he was not a fan of Ford cars!

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Inspired by a series of 1920s aero-engined racing cars and brought to life by writer Ian Fleming, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang became a much loved icon after it starred in the 1968 hit film. A total of six versions of the fictional racing car were made for the film, and the model used in the stage production holds the record for the most expensive stage prop ever! The original, which was the only car to be officially registered with the GEN11 number plate,
is expected to make thousands when is auctioned off in LA next year.

The A-Team's GMC Van
The A Team's van has become as synonymous with the hit show as Mr T. The original A Team van was a black and gun metal GMC G-series (G-15) van, distinguished by its red stripe and equipped with a Ruger AC556 fully automatic rifle! Reportedly six copies of the iconic vans were used in one series, with a GMC G-20 Vendura van being used in the 2010 A Team movie. The van is so popular it's even possible to hire replica models for special occasions!

James Bond's Aston Martin DB5

The silver Aston Martin DB5 driven by 007 Sean Connery in classic films such as Goldfinger and Thunderball is probably the most famous car in the world. The iconic Aston Martin, complete with secret agent friendly gadgets, including ejector seat, nail spreader and revolving number plates, recently fetched an impressive £2.9million at auction.
